|| Why I Stopped Posting ||
The biggest reason I didn’t put anything up is because of horrible planning. I didn’t realize this until very recently, but I absolutely detest writing posts early. It’s not that I get my stroke of inspiration at the last hour or anything like that. I just don’t enjoy writing posts early. And because of this in combination with trying to write posts for my other blog, when finals rolled around (read: barreled over my soul), I didn’t have anything actually written.
The more important reason, though, is that I felt like I needed to be doing a million other things to advance this blog. I’ve gotten into this really unhealthy “competition” with other bloggers and I’ve been feeling like I’m not doing well enough for this blog. Mainly I feel like I should be uploading posts two to three times a week, and running a perfect Instagram, and tweeting every hour on the hour, and monetizing my blog. And because I’m not doing literally any of these things I’ve been feeling discouraged which means I pushed this blog to the back burner. And, basically, continued the cycle of self-resentment.
Quite frankly, this blog was representing a lot of disappointment with myself and my own life.
But things have changed recently and I’m back for good.
|| Why I’m Coming Back||
The biggest change was getting out of school and being able to reevaluate.
Without the stress of school, I’ve been able to adjust my editorial calendar to reflect a more realistic blogging schedule for yours truly. Basically, all of the posts I plan on writing should actually be interesting to you and me. And they should be coming out in a more timely manner.
Second big change was reevaluating how I looked at my blog.
I didn’t start this blog with the intention of monetizing. Is that something I would love to do eventually? Absolutely. But I started this blog because I wanted to share my information and experiences with y’all. And that’s exactly what I’m going back to.
I’m not going to feel bad if I don’t upload 50 pins a day. I’m not going to berate myself if I go a week without touching Twitter. I’m not going to join Instagram even if that’s what every other blogger’s doing, because it doesn’t make me happy. I’m not going to write two posts a week while taking seventeen hours because one really awesome post is a million times better than two crappy posts.
This blog is going to be a blog before it’s anything else. It’s going to be a place where I share my thoughts and ideas and tips with you instead of being a competition to get to money.
So you’re going to see a lot of changes in the next few weeks and months.
|| The Changes ||
You probably noticed that I’m uploading this on a Thursday instead of a Wednesday. Well that’s here to stay.
Like I said, I run another blog all about books over at The Little Book Nerd which is – you guessed it – all about books. I upload on Monday over there and trying to get another post up on Tuesday over here was never going to happen. Ergo, posting days are being moved.
This might not be permanent because I’m still trying to figure out this blog a hundred percent. But I think it’s a step in the right direction.
Second major change that’s happening: I’m going to be getting a new theme for the blog.
Many months ago, I said I was going to finally choose what theme I wanted. And I did. I’m not going to tell you what it is because I really want to surprise y’all, but I think it’s absolutely gorgeous.
Regardless, I’m nearly at the financial point where I can buy it. I’m currently working with Rev.com to get some of the money for the theme. And I’m also finally getting my first job! Well actually I’m in the interviewing stages of a couple of jobs, attempting to get my first job but either way I’m really excited. I’ll be talking about this experience in a separate post.
Soon enough, there’s going to be pretty giant change to the look of this blog and I’m super pumped for that day to arrive.
And the final major change is with my social media presence.
I’m taking a step away from Twitter and Pinterest. You probably won’t notice that big of a difference because I don’t go on social media that often but I will. Basically, I’ll work on social media when I actually have the time for it. Some weeks that’ll mean that I’m on Pinterest and Twitter every day, but it’ll more likely be that I won’t go on either for literal weeks.
This is really for my peace of mind more than anything else. I need to take off some of the self-imposed pressures I’ve had to creating and running the “perfect” blog.
Phew, that was a difficult post for me to put together.
Thank you for your patience with all of the craziness that this blog is going through. I hope y’all can understand why I needed to take a moment to reestablish how this blog needed to be. And I hope that you’re as excited as I am about the newest changes to the blog.
How has your life been? Are there any posts you’d like to see from me?
